ALONE

   “I work alone.” Nightingale said.

   Sosuke approached the gate. The dragon-kin wasn’t his first choice, if the man refused to join him, fine.

   Nightingale’s longer stride caught up to him. “I’m not joining you. We’re just working the same job. That’s it.”

   Sosuke folded his hands behind his back.

​

   “So, if I find this Lawrence fellow’s sister first,” Nightingale said. “The reward money’s mine.”

   “Of course.” Sosuke’s expression remained neutral. He preferred to work alone, but he wasn’t foolish enough to track a manic dragon-kin by himself. He needed Nightingale and Nightingale would need him if they hoped to survive.
